The future

Five hundred years ago, no one knew
that the earth rotates around the sun.
Four hundred years ago, no one knew
that bacteria and viruses could cause diseases.
Two hundred years ago, no one had heard about
genes and DNA molecules.

Five hundred years from now, maybe people will understand things
that are totally incomprehensible for us today.
Maybe they will find a doors to other dimensions.
Maybe they will understand how to live in peace with one another.
Who knows what they will arrive at?
If not humanity have died out before then.

Acquisitive disorder

All people like good food.
However, a good appetite can also turn into a disorder, an obsession.
Many people are eating themselves to death. They need help.
The desire for power and money is also quite normal.
Nobody wants to feel powerless and poor.
But the pursuit of power and money
can also turn into an obsession, a disorder.

Words of wisdom

Do not despise lies and self-deceptions.
Without them, many people would have nothing to live for.

Saturday, July 26, 2014

Which one of them is you?

One part of my mind wants to lose weight and stop drinking, another part wants to eat, drink and be merry. A third part is jealous and a fourth part is critical and judgmental. A fifth part is like a cultivated therapist, with a pearl necklace, that is trying to explain to the other parts, with a soft voice, that they must be more sensible. An additional part observes all these contradictory parts and tries to figure out how to deal with them. None of these parts is my true self. There is no true, delimited self in the mind, I believe. To search for a true, authentic, delimited self is like searching for the Easter Bunny.

The main issue

How is it that Hitler became so vicious?
He was also a cute little kid when he was little.
Did he catch syphilis, was he possessed by an evil spirit, was he insane?
Does it matter, really?
Isn't the main issue why so many people began to worship him?
How do you explain that?

Did Jesus exist?

I have changed my mind. I nowadays believe that Jesus really existed, that he was not just a mythological figure. He was convinced that God very soon would overthrow the forces of evil and establish a new kingdom here on earth where there would be no more misery and injustice. These were the good news he was preaching. He was a Jewish apocalypticist. (“Truly I tell you, some of you standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come in power. Mark 9:1.”)

However, he was wrong. The evil forces crucified him and three hundred years later, they even began to use his name for their new religion. In 312, the Roman Emperor Constantine became a "Christian" after he had won a military victory. Ever since then have incredibly evil emperors, kings, dictators, presidents, warmongers and ordinary soldiers been professing Christians. And the Christian clergy have endorsed them and prayed for them. The evil forces have rejoiced in nearly two thousand years now.

Beliefs

Some people believe that they are saved and that they will go to heaven when they die; others believe that they will reincarnate. Some belong to destructive religious cults and follow mad cult leaders, like sheep who are followers of wolfs; others belong to fanatic political organizations.

Ordinary decent Germans became enthusiastic Nazis, noble and honorable English gentlemen became slave traders, and devout Christians in the American Southern States became merciless slave drivers. They believed that black people were animals that must be treated harshly.

Some believe that they are ugly and useless losers; others believe that they are wonderful top predators. Some believe that the meaning with life is to become rich; others believe that nothing is more important than to be slim. Some believe in the law of the jungle; others believe in equality and justice.

Is it possible to live one's life without being guided by beliefs? I don't think so.
It's very sad.

Spontaneous generation

All life on earth originates from one single cell that was formed more than three and a half billion years ago. This original cell divided itself and formed two cells. The two cells divided themselves and formed four cells, eight cells, sixteen cells, thirty two cells...

All life forms are really one huge organism, a super organism.

Who are you, really?

One part of your mind wants to give up smoking,
another part wants to relax and have a cigarette.

One part of your mind despises envy,
another part feels clearly the bitterness.

One part of your mind is very serious and has high morale,
another part is frivolous and immoral.

One part of your mind is crystal clear and awake,
another part is like a hypnotized sleepwalker.

There are also genuinely friendly and unselfish parts of your mind,
and self-righteous parts, egotistical parts and ridiculous parts;
and parts that you don't know of,
until specific situations are showing them to you,
heroic parts, evil parts, idiotic parts...

Moreover, one part of your mind is able to notice and observe the other parts.

Your mind is a mixture, but who are you,
the observer that has a mind that is made up of many different parts?
Is the observer also a part of your mind?
I believe it is.
I believe that I am a part of the mental processes,
the electrochemical processes in my head.

It is possible to step outside oneself
and observe oneself, the question is if this is an illusion.

The Mind

Trillions of single cell organisms, interconnected and working together like an extremely complicated ant community, create your mysterious being. Your eyes, your ears and your nose are pure magic, even your feet, and, of course, your brain. Billions of brain cells are interconnected in a miraculously intricate way. Somehow, they are creating your mysterious mind.

However, your mysterious mind does not usually experience mystery and wonder. It is mostly occupied with everyday matters, making plans, babbling, creating explanations, rationalizations and justifications; watching stupid stuff on TV, surfing the internet... Very little of its time is spent on wonder.
Why is the mind so overly concerned about unimportant things?

Why have billions of years of evolution selected for rubbish and nonsense?

Realism

What would the world look like, if no one was there who could see it? There would be no colors, no fragrances, no sounds and no beautiful sunsets. It would be neither hot, nor cold. The moon would not be there.

Matter, as most people know these days, consists of practically nothing, void, empty space between the electrons and the atomic nucleus.

What are electrons made of? What is empty space really? What do you mean when you talk about the reality? Do you mean the void and a few vibrating strings here and there?

Realism and materialism are outdated worldviews, as far as I can see. Spirit and matter, the observer and the observed, are two sides of the same coin. One side cannot exist without the other.

To cheat or to be cheated

All people lie
and all people get upset when others are lying.
This is ridiculous.
To lie is the most natural thing in the world.

Don't try to get to know yourself.
Don't try to uncover yourself.
Don't throw a spanner in the works.
This is truly idiotic.

It's not the lies that causes problems,
it's the truths.
Have you noticed that those who take life too seriously
often become too hard headed?
It's not good to be too hard headed.

Lies serve a purpose.
They help us to survive.
They help us to endure.
Without lies and self-deceptions
what would be left to live for?

Yes, of course I'm lying.
You're stupid if you believe what I'm saying.

Life

You are born somewhere and you will die somewhere.
In life we wander about and give each other good advice,
like hens. Cluck cluck, cluck cluck.

We're so sensible.
We write books and articles,
we organize workshops and conferences;
we comfort each other and tell each other what to do.
Cluck cluck.

An oak tree grows where it grows.
It may have been planted there by a jay or a little girl,
but there is no ultimate reason why it stands where it stands.
There is no director who has placed it there.
There is no plan behind its existence
other than the growing instructions
that was written in the chromosomes in the acorn
three or four hundred years ago.

Of course there is no ultimate meaning with your life.
You just happen to be where you happen to be.
Right now, you happen to be here.
Cluck cluck.
The seed that gave rise to the universe contained no instructions
no genetic code, no blueprint.
Everything has just become as it has become.

All living things originate from one single cell
that happened to be formed, by chance, more than three billion years ago.
Cats and dogs, birds and bees, flowers and trees...

There are majestic oak trees, and tragic old oak trees
and there are newly planted oak trees from good German nurseries
with good genes and good crown structure
almost like young elite soldiers lined up in a row
outside well-planned residential areas.

The universe is not like a well-planned residential area.
Nothing is predetermined.
Everything just gets as it gets.

WWI

In the beginning of August 1914, people rejoiced in the streets.
In Germany, Austria, England and France, patriotic euphoria erupted.
At last, there would be war. Hooray! Hooray!
People longed for purification, in a noble fight for their fatherland.
They longed for a meaning to their meaningless lives,
Thomas Mann, Ludwig Wittgenstein, The Red Cross and the Churches,
all the cheering little women...

I didn't like you much before you joined the army, John.
But I do like you, cocky, now you've got your khaki on.”

The enthusiasm didn't last long.
The front turned out to be hell.
Ten million men allowed themselves to be slaughtered.
Twenty million were seriously injured.

In March 1917, the Russians had had enough.
They refused to obey orders. Many went home.
Mutinies broke out, also in France.

In October 1918, even the Germans had had it.
Sailors and soldiers rebelled and Kaiser Wilhelm was dethroned.
The party was over.

Walls

Many insects can see ultraviolet light,
but this is not something you can do.
Dogs can hear sounds that you can't hear.
They can also perceive scents that don't exist for you.

In addition, the brain filters away large parts of what you can see and hear,
in order to not get overwhelmed.
This happens automatically, without your conscious influence.
What you perceive, is just a tiny fragment of the reality.

But not only that,
in order to make the reality that you can perceive less terrifying,
you also try to make it smaller and more manageable.
You create a small world that you protect behind high walls.
These walls consist of prejudices, preconceptions
imaginations and simplified explanations.
After a few decades in there
you can not even peek through the embrasures.
because they have also been bricked in.

Unfortunately, if you begin to feel trapped and desperately need some fresh air,
then there are no longer any doors or windows that you can open.

Only a major life crisis can now come to your rescue.
Positive thinking, mindfulness meditation and psychotherapy
will not be of any help for you.
Your whole world must crumble.

Obsessions

It's perfectly normal to enjoy good food
but the food interest can also turn into a disease,
it can turn into an obsession.
Many people eat themselves to death. They need help.
To wish for power and money is also normal.
Nobody wants to feel penniless and powerless.
But the pursuit of power and money can also turn into a disease.
It can turn into an obsession.

Truth will not make you happy

The vast majority here on earth are losers.
We get no awards, no recognition, no love.
If we're lucky, we get a crappy job.
Without fantasies, we wouldn't survive.

__________________________________________________________________

Almost half the world — over three billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.
At least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day.
According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty.

Problems

Even if you were to experience a spiritual awakening,
you would still be forced to live your life in the everyday life dimension.
You would still need food and shelter, for yourself and for your family.
You would still have to deal with all the annoyances of everyday life.
A spiritual awakening would not solve your problems.

Con fusion

Some believe that they are superior, others that they are inferior.
Some are optimists, others are more skeptical.
Some are fully convinced about things they have not a clue about.
Maybe we all live in different fantasy worlds,
with different ideas about the world and what life is about.
Is there a God or a bunch of gods that guide our steps?
Is there an afterlife?
Will we reincarnate?
Maybe there are no Gods.
Maybe there is no afterlife.
Maybe there are multitudes of other universes out there somewhere?
Maybe we have a free will, maybe we don't.
Maybe there are no rules we have to follow,
maybe there are.
What is the world like, really?

The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street became a multi millionaire by taking advantage of people's greed and stupidity. But he was not the only one who became rich by cheating fools. Wall Street was, and still is, crammed with with cocaine-snorting crooks who get rich by cheating gullible fools. They sold huge amounts of worthless "financial instruments" to investors worldwide. Then, when the bubble burst in 2008, and the financial crisis was a fact, it was the taxpayers who had to rescue them.

Of course there are a lot of crooks also here in Europe. Here they did their rackets in Iceland, UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece... And in all these countries have taxpayers been forced to step in and support them so that their card houses would not collapse. If we hadn't bailed out the banks, we would have gone under with them. We have been kidnapped by gangsters.

Now we are sitting in movie theaters across the globe, giggling with delight when Leonardo DiCaprio jumps on the gravy train and fucks whores left and right. What amazing success ? What amazing babes ! Wow!

Sankalpa

What is the purpose with your meditation practice?
What are you trying to achieve?
What expectations do you have?
Which delusions are driving you?
Do you want to become enlightened and awesome?
Do you want to merge with the cosmic soul?
Do you want to become more self confident and more successful?
Do you want to lose weight?
Do you want to improve yourself in some way?
Do you need a group affiliation?
What are you looking for?
What if it is a misunderstanding that motivates you.
What if you've been misled by spaced out gurus and life coaches.

To search for truths

Many of those who start searching will not find any opals.
Many of those who devote their lives to dig themselves deeper and deeper
into the earth, will come back empty-handed.

How would you handle a failure like this?
What would you tell your old friends and family?
Would you lie and say that you really did find some beautiful opals
but that you sold them, and then you lost all the money,
or, would you prefer to be honest
and explain that you have wasted many, many years of your life
in this stupid search after illusions?

Important discoveries

The earth is not flat.
The earth is not at the center of the universe.
It is just a boulder among billions of other boulders.
A human being is just an animal among all the other animals.
God is just a fantasy figure.
There are no trolls, no ghosts and no fairies.
Life has no purpose, if you don't invent one.
The evolution has no direction and no goal.

Awakening

It is very painful to realize
that one has been living for so many years
in lies and self-deception.

Alcoholics, drug addicts and neurotics are ruining their lives
and the lives of their families
and they are not even aware of it.
They can't see that their drinking habits
or neurotic selfishness creates serious problems.
Of course they can't see.
Of course you don't want to see that what you're doing is awful.

An alcoholic can come up with the most fantastic justifications
for his or her inordinate drinking.
Similarly, a neurotic person can construct
absolutely watertight explanations and reasons
for his or her behavior.
Hitler blamed himself, in the Berlin bunker,
for having been too soft with the German people.
This was his biggest mistake in life.
The thinking mind has an enormous power.

It is impossible to awaken people from alcoholism and neurotic delusions.
The protective walls are impenetrable.
Not until the poor con artist finally realizes, that he or she has a problem
can friends, family members or therapists be of any help.

The insight that you have a problem is the starting point.
This is awakening.
This is kensho.
Now you have to get out of bed.
Now you can to begin to do, what you have to do.

Take it easy. Don't rush.
It will take a long time to learn how to accept
a life without delusion.

Surrender to madness

You are constantly bombarded with nonsense, silliness and crap.
Wonderful housewives with wonderful detergents;
how to become skinny, how to become gorgeous and how to get rich.
Endless idiocy, in the subway ads, in newspapers, in radio,
in your iPhone, in the computer games, on television ...
Wherever you turn your attention, you will discover something idiotic.
You can't hide; you can't escape.
You can't even hear your own thoughts.
You have lost your soul, long, long ago.

If you, for some strange reason, would get access to your true self,
then you would have no use for it.
A stupid ego is much more useful here in this world.

Bell jars

You're living in a fantasy world.
We're all living in fantasy worlds.
We're all living in bubbles.

You live in your world and I live in mine.
What is the world like, really?
How are we to live?
What do you think?

Some go to Church, others go to mosques.
Some go to gay clubs, others go to soccer matches.
Some like Robin Hood, others prefer the sheriff.

Psychotics, neurotics and careerists,
religious or political fanatics,
indifferent sleepwalkers,
drug addicts, bimbos and body builders...

Resistance in meditation practice

It is unpleasant to get to know oneself.
We don't want to get to know the unpleasant parts of ourselves.
This is perfectly understandable.
We don't want to discover that we are greedy or nasty.
We don't want to discover that we are disgusting or meddlesome.
We don't want to discover that we are miserable.
We want to appear as optimistic, relaxed and sensible,
both to ourselves and to others.

Resistance to meditation practice
is often because we don't want to encounter
the unpleasant parts of our being.

Meditation is not about peace and harmony;
it is not about merging with the cosmic soul.
Such ideas are just bullshit.
Meditation is a method to uncover inner bullshit.

Spirits

Are you possessed by an evil spirit, a lazy spirit or a stupid spirit?
So many problematic spirits can take you in possession,
egotistical spirits, jealous spirits, greedy spirits...

There are so many crazy ideas and misunderstandings that can take over you
and you are blissfully unaware of this.
The brain works this way, for some strange reason
Later you can hopefully realize that you were a fool,
but right now, right here, inside the illusion,
you are convinced that you see things clearly,
unlike others around you.
You're blinded. You're hypnotized.
You're under a spell.
And there is absolutely nothing you can do about this,
not at this moment.
